The Phase 2
Phase Two:
After demonstrating responsible behavior and a beginning commitment to recovery, patients may be moved to the second phase of the program. Treatment activities include group and individual therapy and daily attendance at self-help groups.
The Intensive Outpatient Programs are a step-down from day/night treatment in the clinical continuum of care. Patients may be admitted directly to Phase Two. Admissions are reviewed and approved by either the Clinical or Program Director for appropriateness. Patients are assessed as being in need of clinical services, but ready to live and work independently in the treatment community or the community at large.
Patients in Phase Two continue with the same primary therapist they worked with in the more intensive Phase of care. The patient is scheduled to attend a total of twelve hours of treatment in the intensive outpatient Phase of care. Therapeutic interventions consist of a combination of group therapy either in the day or evening, individual counseling as indicated and family work as needed. The patient’s medication and medical needs are addressed through referrals or case management.
Typically, the patient lives on campus under supervision. In this phase of treatment patients are challenged to utilize their sober network of sober supports within the local community. They are encouraged to integrate recovery principles in their daily activities. They begin to explore vocational pursuits that challenge their character pathology and return to being an active member of society.
